Band Photography

I have begun branching out into band photography. I am testing the water in all sorts of photography genres. Its something different and fun to do especially since the studio is currently out of commission. With the remodel going on I have not been able to book anyone in the studio so I have to carry my work somewhere else for the time being. I had a super fun time on this shoot. In fact it was my first night time shoot.

I had a blast. I cannot wait to photograph another band. In the mean time I am slowly getting those templates together for selling on my site. Let you know when its up and running!

I have decided to delete my current webpage that you currently access (cahillcreations.com)... I think for the time being I will use my blog as my primary source for updates, information as well as galleries. I think this will be far easier to manage as well as a more personal approach from me. I hope to devote a lot more time in the next coming weeks to updating this routinely.

In the meantime I would like to let everyone know that I am currently booking for Christmas portraits. It seems like this year has blown by so quickly! And wow October is almost gone!

Proofing

After days of searching for a new proofing gallery I think I have found one that I will be using. A fellow photographer recommended Zenfolio so I am taking it for a trial run. I have high hopes this will work out in place of the proofing site my current website offers. This gives the customer larger images to see versus the smaller ones my current site has. I am so excited for all these changes!

Also must I mention a fabulous new site for professional photographers. It is for templates (baby, Christmas etc) and they are customized to be printed with WHCC! Which is fantastic since that is who I print through! If you are a professional photographer you must take a look - best part they are reasonably priced. I went shopping today looking for templates at WHCC and they were $25 a pop! Outrageous and they were not even to my taste. But these are fantastic and simple. Unfortunatly they are only available to professional photographers but there are many other great sites with templates for your personal use. Check them out here

A weekend of Pictures!

I had the pleasure of visiting a friend's farm and taking some pictures of her little cowboy. It was a fun shoot!

Driving to their house I passed this amazing field of sunflowers, it was an endless field sunflowers as far as the eye could see. It was beautiful. I went back the next day and did a few shots of my daughter.

She always has that cheesy smile, its so hard to get anything natural. I took so many pictures but never really got a good smile. She either scrunches her face to much or she looks miserable, kinda like this picture here

Meet little M. I had the pleasure of taking his portraits this morning and oh what a ham! I had so much fun! Well at first he was cranky and hungry, then didn't want to sleep so I thought I was in another pickle trying to get good baby shots but the baby wanted to cry! So with patience I waited and oh boy was it worth it! I got some pretty awesome shots! I am so excited I cannot wait to post them!

Isn't this so darn cute! This little one is only a week or so old. My elf hat was to big but some tucking behind her head it worked!
I went to my girlfriend's sons birthday party over the weekend, I got suckered into taking some pictures at the last minute, doesn't bother me none cause everyone knows I am a sucker for little ones! My weekend challenge though. Get 4 children in a picture BUT 3 of the kiddos were all 3 months and younger! Yikes!

How do you pose a bunch of babies that cannot sit up yet! I should practice this one! Plus the birthday boy was to excited to sit down and pose for pictures but I was able to get this shot! It is the only one of him half looking and none of the babies crying!

My favorite Local Band

This past weekend I got to do a super fun photo shoot. It was of my favorite band Big Luscious T! They are new to the area, a group of wonderfully talented guys. I have been backing this band from the start! They play at our bar once a month. I take their pictures frequently when the are playing but Saturday we got to do an "official" shoot. They needed some images for their portfolio. I had a blast! Sometimes it was quite frustrating because they were like little kids, moving, and not listening so I geve up trying to direct them and let them do their own stuff. I really wanted to do their pictures around sunset but one member had to get back to Baltimore so I had no choice but to fight the direct sun at 2pm. I took them to a location that I use to hang out when I was younger. It was a swimming hole in the back of a park - but directly beside it is a train bridge with brightly colored graffiti. I got a couple shots on the train tracks but it was so bright and the sun was so direct that it was really hard to balance it all out. We are planning to do more pictures, probably at a industrial park or something like that (for their individual shoots) ... But in the mean time I will share one of my favorite shots. I have a ton of favorites but this one I love the colors!

A wonderfully talented photographer friend blogs every week about how much fun she has with this site so I am going to give it a try. I could not decide which photo to use because I simply had to many favorites, and not just of my children but of my clients children as well! But I decided to go with this picture of Abie. She looks so genuine and sweet, her eyes just shine. I actually just took this picture yesterday.

I had my very first Oplove session today! I met a wonderful mom and 4 month old baby named Riley. Dad is currently deployed in Kuwait. They photographed beautifully and I of course could not stop taking pictures. It was cloudy but a good day to shoot. It was a little cold here and there but the baby didn't seem to mind to much. I have more pictures that I will post soon!

Hosting a benefit for 2 local Children

I have been deeply touched by two extraordinary children that are in my area both battling the same childhood cancer. As part of The Littlest Heroes Project I have been in contact with two amazing families that have incredible but very sad stories of their two young children. Olivia is a three year old princess and Drew he is a 5 year old little super hero. I have already taken Olivia's pictures as part of the Littlest Heroes Project. I will be taking Drew's very soon; in fact if all went well he was being released from the local children's hospital today. Both children were diagnosed back in November with medulloblastoma. Scott and I are happy to announce that we will be hosting a benefit for both children on July 11th to help with the astronomical medical bills both families have been faced with. You can read Olivia's story in my last post. As soon as I am able to take Drew's pictures I will also be posting his story. Both these families have been through so much. Something I could never imagine. I do not know how I could be as strong as these parents are. They deserve so much. It makes me so sad that these innocent beautiful children have been struck with such an ugly disease. They are fighting so hard and are genuine little heroes. Keep July 11th on your calendars. More details will follow!

What a beautiful girl!

Yesterday I had the fantastic priveledge of meeting a beautiful 3 year old fun little girl named Olivia. It was in part of The Littlest Heroes Project that I am a part of. Olivia was diagnosed on black friday this past year with Medulloblastoma. She has been through so much in this short time since she was diagnosed with the cancer. She was so amazing her smile melted my heart and I teared up when she laughed because she was so beautiful. She was a bit shy at first but after a round of peek a boo and some bubble blowing she was all smiles. Her little "purple puppy" (her stuffed toy friend) wanted to sit on my head and hang from the tree like a monkey and Olivia laughed hysterically each time. I made her a tutu which she sported proudly and wore home to show daddy. She was treated like a celebrity getting so many snapshots I couldn't stop. I sent them to her mom last night and I couldn't decide which ones to send because they were all so cute I sent them all! I feel so blessed meeting this amazing family. Olivia's mom Lulu is due any day with another little baby. This family is going through so much I can not believe how strong they all are, smiling the entire time! It has taken awhile but with some long hours staying up at night trying to figure out how to do it I finally did it. There are still some quirks that I am trying to work out but at least I have it up. I would still like to add to my galleries and I have a few senior portraits I will be doing soon so I will be adding that to my site as well! I am finally finding the confidence in myself that I do a good job and want to start promoting myself more. I have an amazing circle of friends and having my husband to back me 120% so its given me the strength to keep going and make my dreams a reality!

I cant believe how long its been! I have been so sidetracked with everything! I need to get back on pace here! I miss this place. So I am hoping to get on here a lot more frequently. Well holidays were wonderful the kids were completly spoiled and I am still zonked from it all! I decided to stop selling my tutus and capes because I just dont have time to pursue it. My passion lies in my photography. Plus with the new law that went into effect it will make it impossible to sell anything anyhow. So I think what I am going to do hopefully is start documenting my learning expirences with both my photography and photoshop and begin making free tutorials to help others that are just starting out... I will check in the next couple of days. Who knows maybe I will have some fabulous tutorial set up! LOL

Slow days

I don't know if I am enjoying this slow period or not. I am quite content on being busy but after an exhausting few weeks its kinda nice to be "bored".... Just did a craft show a few weeks ago and then have another one next week. I thought I would be getting more calls on setting up appointments for holiday pictures but I havent but Im not upset about it. Ive taken the last few days to really try to get my studio space up and going. I think I need to get a few more props then I will really be pushing the photography thing. Now that the cold weather has set in noone really wants to do shoots outside.
Ive been busy making tutus and capes as well (which is what I promote at craft shows) so maybe that will keep me busy until the spring! LOL

Today I had the chance to shoot pictures of three very adorable sisters! Unfortunatly I was shooting all manual so the pictures of the littlest one didnt come out as good as I hoped. But at any rate I was super excited and had tons of fun taking loads of pictures. It was great getting the girls all dressed up in cute TuTus and running around like little princesses! A big thank you to Lady F for letting me take these awesome pics of her daughters! I have more but here is just a sample of some of the great shots!

Horray for me! After an exhausting 3 days of trying to build a website I finally am up and running. Now its not my FINAL draft but I have to start somewhere right? I have found that if I have the money I will let someone do that crap for me. I am pretty saavy when it comes to the internet but OMG all the damn codes, Im surprised I still speak english.... HTML,SQL,CSS,ABC, yada yada yada.... I stayed up half the night trying to get everything to work and it wouldnt but horray for me (giving myself a well deserved pat on the back) I finally got it up and moving. So Step 1 is done. I got my site up. I got my cards ordered today they should be in next week. I got a photoshoot Thursday already..... Im so excited! Now I am going to go enjoy a glass of wine!

So here are some pictures that I did today. Not to shabby considering this was my first photo shoot using a light system. Plus I had Alien A was running around like a loose canon and was near impossible to shoot, I was practicing shooting in manual so as soon as i would get her in focus she would move. Then I would get an awesome shot but it would be outta focus. I got to get quicker at that. I cant wait to get my new lens Im sure Ill have tons of pictures then. But good news is I didnt burn the house down with the hot lights and I didnt hang the Alien from the ceiling fan so all in all I guess you could say it was pretty successful.... Here are some sample shots but does it really matter I have no readers... LOL

So I slowly my buisness dreams are slowly unfolding! Not only am I going to be proud owner of my own photography buisness but also co - owner of a side buisness with my best friend.... We are still keeping what we are doing on the hush hush! LOL We have a fantastic Idea as well as a snazzy buisness name but until we get it up and running noone will no what it is (dont want anyone to steal my glory... LOL)... Anyhow my photography buisness is going to focus on children and their mommies. Mostly candid shots, I already call my buisness "Cahill Creations" but when I do my shots with children and mommies it will be under "Mommy & Me Photography, a division of Cahill Creations". I will be doing templates for cards as well as individual shots of children. I have my official first shoot next week and I cannot wait! I also ordered my new lens today so I will be super excited when that comes in! Cheers!

Chalk another day up

So over the weekend I had time to think about what exactly I want to get myself into. I sat down wrote out a buisness plan and then just confused myself even more. I know what I want just no idea how to start it. I want to take some photography classes to get better adjusted to what I am doing with my camera but unfortunatly Im not able to at the moment... Oh well another day in paradise I guess. Well back to the grind tomorrow school, football practice etc. Im still snapping pictures like crazy of the kids but for some reason Alien A, she isnt letting me take her picture any more. Upsetting cause she use to be my biggest model! LOL

Today was relativley peaceful. Took Aliens M,A,and R to the park across the street. Had some yummy ice cream and then began snapping a zillion pictures. Ive been trying to learn Manual on my DSLR but its taking alot more time to get use to. I cant remember where I should have my settings and moving from shade to sun screws me all up. I took 46 pictures but only got 3 good ones, at least 3 that I consider top quality....

Then we came home to a marathon of BEN 10. Alien M actually believes he is BEN 10.... Ironic I call my son an Alien but in his head he believes he is 10 of them.... LOL You would have to see it to understand....

Confessions of a Stay at Home Mom

-I make dinner out of a box every now and then
-I sometimes count a PBJ sandwich as a fruit and protien on the "recomended daily diet"
-I use the TV to entertain my kids sometimes just to get something accomplished
-I am not a PTA mom
-I don't volunteer - even though I would like too at some point
-I dress my daughter in her brothers clothes to go outside or to sleep in
-I cant make cookies or cakes from scratch.
-I hate to read the same books over and over even though repetition is best for kids
-My meals for myself sometimes consists of my childs leftovers -I thought being a SAHM would be easy. I was SO wrong
-I envy people who get out and can conversate on a normal level
-My kids eat sugared cereal more than they should but I am ok with that since we dont keep any other sugared snacks in the house
-I have an excuse once a week why I cant cook and we need takeout
-I write lists for everything but still suffer from C.R.A.F.T. disease (Cant Remember a Fuc**** Thing)
-I dont always shower everyday cause I am too busy entertaining kids
-I don't feel bad that I enrolled 2 of my kids in a part time day care 3 times a week for 4 hours.
-I hate toothpaste stains in the sink even though everyday I tell the kids to clean up their mess
-I miss not being "in style" when it comes to fashion since I rarely get out of sweats!
-I tell my hubby that I hate that our daughter still climbs into our bed even though I secretly enjoy our cuddle time she is so cute when she sleeps
-I dont save all the artwork my children do - especially bc they go through a pack of construction paper almost in a 2 week time frame!
-I love the dollar store and consignment shops even though my hubby is ashamed of them. He says we have the money why shop there.
-I hate that I go to bed singing in my head "twinkle little star" or "old mc donald"
-I yell more than I like
-I nap when my kids nap even though I have a list of 50 million things I need to get done
-I find the easter bunny annoying
-I hate clowns in fact I am scared to death and wont take my kids to the circus
- I take all the batteries out of toys that make noise .... I cannot stand noisy toys but I will buy the most annoying for my neices / nephews
- I dont change my daughters diaper as often as I should. Usually if its poop or if its so filled with pee it hits the floor. (haha)-If dad is home I pretend not to smell my daughter and go upstairs and "pretend" to be cleaning just so I dont have to change her once he realizes she is poopy
-I use clorox wipes everyday but my hubby thinks I actually scrub the 2 bathrooms everyday. Really its only once a week and he still doesn't know that clorox wipes exist - SHHHH
-when my 6 and 3 yo are thirsty I tell them to get water cause I am to lazy to pour them milk or juice.
-I went to my sons school play on Thursday but purposly left the babies binky in the car so afterwards I had a reason to leave instead of "mingling" with the other parents after the show
-I pay our bills online but use the excuse I have to go to the Post Office to mail bills out just so I can get out of the house for 25 minutes.
- More often my daughter stays in her PJs all day long yet she still has a million outfits hanging in her closet with the tags still on them
-I hit Dunkin Donuts 1x a week and dont tell my hubby cause we are suppose to be "watching what we eat"
-I generally tell my hubby I am cleaning or in bed when he calls from work at night but generally I am on the internet
-I have scheduled all my major cleaning for certain days yet have mastered the art of a quick "speed cleaning" before he comes home - the house looks spotless and he thinks I spend hours cleaning
-I recruit my children to do some of the household duties cause they think its a game. They dont know that the carpet swiffer is not a cool hockey stick (they push there balls around the floor with it) but a really helpful "quick" picker upper
- My sons binkie hits the floor I pop it into my mouth to "clean" it then give it back to him.
-I hate action figures
-But I hate barbies even more
-My daughter mimics everything I do, So she puts her baby dolls in time out now .. A lot...
-I threw out all the sippy cups in the house cause Im tired of finding week old milk cups under the couch or under the bed.
-I put my sons diapers on backwards so he stops taking them off
-Not a huge fan of Santa. Chump in a red suit shouldnt get all the credit for the money I spend
-If I scrub the floor its almost certain that within minutes something sticky will spill on it.
-I dont take my kids to get professional pictures made as often as I should. Nor do I buy school pictures.
-Previously wet toilet paper that is now stuck on the floor or wall is not fun to clean
- Neither is vomit.

My daily routine normally involves 25 time outs, 15 doors slamming, a parade of stomping pissed off feet, 30 temper tantrums, and dont forget the daily dose of baby vomit. Chaos utter chaos. So I took it upon myself to make some charts. Some chore charts and behavior charts... And OMG if I knew that one peice of poster board with some mommy scribble on it and some dollar store stickers was all it took to create law and order in this house I wouldve done it years ago.... I made it through the day with children HAPPY to do chores and even more HAPPIER following the rules! Holy crap Im still in shock. I had no temper tantrums, no time outs, all kind words, and even HELP ! Who are these kids and why are they behaving?
